Club Match Report
Sunday 16th May 2004
The run
up to the fourth club match at Saltfleetby Fisheries saw the
weather very warm and settled. On the morning of the match,
it became clear that it was going to be another hot calm
day. It also became clear that bites were going to be hard
to come by as the sun got higher and the fish became more
lethargic, basking near the surface. Taking advantage of
this was Chris Johnson (peg 7) who fished the sometimes
controversial method of “floating pole”. Some matches and
fisheries ban this method, but the only stipulation this
club has is a no floating baits ban, so the floating pole
method is valid. The effects of this method can be awesome,
with Chris showing that by winning by a clear 10lbs of fish
caught up in the water. The other anglers did manage to get
fish using more conventional methods. Fishing on the deck,
and coming second for week number two was Trevor Pidcock
(peg 2), who had 21lb 12oz. Jason Adlam (peg 21) netted a
couple of bonus bream late on in the match, and they helped
him push Rich West (peg 26) into fourth to claim third spot.
Dave Spence also found a bream (peg 14) and was 5th with 8lb
10oz. Dennis Bailey found a few carp for 5lb and sixth
place. |
