Club Match Report
Sunday 5th September 2004
Sunday 5th September saw
15 members turn out for the last club match in the series at
Saltfleetby Fisheries.
This has been a series
of 20 matches which started in the drizzle and rain of
April, and finished in glorious sunshine of early September.
Overall the matches have been supported well, at a time when
a lot of local clubs are struggling to maintain numbers,
this cub has averaged 15 anglers per match. The club will be
“open” again next year, but to a different format and entry.
There will be meeting in the New Year to discuss membership
and format. Please see Chris at the fishery or the local
press for further details.
Back to this year
though, and with Chris the fishery owner raising entry to
£10 today, but waiving any peg fee and £20 from the golden
peg going to the prize fund, there was £100 up for grabs to
the winner today.
The fishing was quite
tough in the bright hot conditions, and it was between 3
anglers on the western bank who seemed to be fairing best.
Dave Ross (peg 1) couldn’t get a rhythm going and ended up
in third place (£30) with 23lb. Just a few pegs up, old foes
Gordon Greenlees (peg 3) and Jason Adlam (peg 4) were
battling it out for top spot. At the weigh in neither angler
had thought they had done enough, though both admitted
Gordon had caught more. Gordon’s fish tipped the scales at
26lb 4oz, but Jason’s were a better stamp and he finished
the winner with 29lb 12oz. Jason won the £100 while Gordon
had to console himself with his £40 winnings.
Chris and Jean would
like to say thank you to all members who continued through
the season, and made this year the success it has been.
Presentation night is
Saturday September 11th, 7pm at the fishery,
anyone is welcome; please contact Chris at the fishery
beforehand. All results for the season and pictures from
presentation night will be in the sports section soon. |
